Children’s Dentistry
Just like adults, children need regular dental checkups to prevent cavities and maintain healthy teeth and gums. Starting dental visits early helps kids develop good oral hygiene habits and allows you to stay on top of their oral health development to catch any potential issues before they become bigger problems.
The best way to maintain a healthy smile is to be proactive!
Dental Care for Kids in Ivanhoe
At ieDental, we understand that a healthy smile starts early. Led by Radhika Arasu, affectionately known as the Balloon Dentist, our children’s dental team is dedicated to providing caring, kid-friendly dental care to help your little ones maintain strong, healthy teeth. We focus on making each visit fun and educational, so your child feels comfortable and learns the importance of good oral hygiene from a young age.
At what age should my child first visit the dentist?
As recommended by the Australian Dental Association your child’s first check up should be completed at least 6 months after the first tooth eruption. It’s important to take your child to the dentist from at least the age of 2 years old so they can become familiar with the experience, and to make future check-ups easier for everyone involved.
How can I prepare my child for their dental visit?
You can prepare your child for their dental visit by staying positive when talking about the dentist. We recommend reading age-appropriate books about dentist visits, so they can familiarise themselves with the process. Lastly, arrive early to your appointment so you’re not feeling stressed or rushed, which can affect how they’re feeling.
What makes our dental clinic child-friendly?
Our dental clinic is child-friendly due in part to our resident ‘Balloon Dental Therapist,’ Radhika Arasu. Our children’s dental team is committed to providing a kid-friendly dental experience for all little ones through fun and educational activities, as well as using age-appropriate communication and gentle dental care.
How often should children see the dentist?
Just like adults, it is recommended that children see the dentist as often as twice a year. Not only does this help our children’s dentists monitor your little one’s tooth development, but we think it helps your child become more accustomed to check-ups.
Do you offer fluoride or sealant treatments for kids?
Yes, we offer fluoride and sealant treatment for kids if it is part of their treatment plan. In addition to assessing their teeth, gums, and bite, we may also include fluoride treatment at their cleaning appointment to help support and strengthen their teeth.
Why Choose Us
What Age Should a Child First Visit the Dentist?
The Australian Dental Association suggests that your child should have their first dental visit by age one or within six months of their first tooth coming in, whichever happens first. It’s a great way to get them off to a good start with their oral health and lets the dentist keep an eye on how their teeth are developing. Plus, early visits help your little one become familiar with going to the dentist, making future checkups easier and more comfortable.
