Dentures

After having a tooth extracted for any reason, it’s important to consider how you’ll replace it to maintain your smile and oral health. Dentures are a common and effective solution for replacing missing teeth, whether you’ve lost one tooth, several, or even all of them. They help restore your ability to eat, speak, and smile confidently, while also preventing the remaining teeth from shifting out of place.

What are Dentures?

We’re putting your comfort first

When you’re missing a tooth, the look and function of your teeth change, making everyday tasks like chewing and speaking more difficult. A denture is a custom-made restorative dentistry fixture that replaces missing teeth, helping to restore both the appearance and function of your smile. Dentures are designed to fit snugly over your gums and can be used to replace just a few teeth (partial dentures) or an entire set (full dentures).

Dentures not only improve your ability to eat and speak but also help maintain the structure of your face by providing support where teeth are missing. With proper care and a good oral health routine, dentures can be a durable and effective solution for tooth loss that look natural and function comfortably.

From initial assessment to your final fitting

The Dentures Procedure

Depending on the condition of your teeth, there may be a few steps involved in getting dentures. At ieDental, we begin with a thorough examination to assess your oral health and determine the best approach for your dentures.

If extractions are needed, those will be done first, and we’ll allow time for your gums to heal before fitting your dentures. Once your mouth is ready, we’ll take detailed impressions of your gums and any remaining teeth to ensure your dentures are custom-made for a precise fit.

If you opt to have implants placed for implant-supported dentures, we’ll coordinate the placement of the implants first. After the implants have fully integrated with your jawbone, your dentures will be attached securely to them, providing added stability and comfort.

Once your dentures are crafted in the lab, you’ll come in for a fitting. We’ll make any necessary adjustments to make sure they’re comfortable and functional.

Dentures FAQs

Can’t find what you’re looking for?

The types of dentures that are available at ieDental include full and partial dentures. The most suitable choice for you will depend on your remaining teeth, gums, bite, and smile goals. At your initial consultation, we’ll discuss eligibility, benefits, limitations, and alternatives.

Dentures are shaped to hug your gums for a close fit, helping to  minimise any movement or rubbing against your cheeks and gums as you speak, smile, and eat. We will make any necessary adjustments to ensure your dentures fit and function as intended.

Dentures can last from five to ten years, but this is dependent on keeping up with fit changes, your bite force, and general dental hygiene. Over time, repairs may be required, which is common. With regular dental check-ups, a dentist can monitor fit and function, and identify any issues so they can be managed early.

Yes, you can eat normally with dentures but there are a few caveats. For one, you may need to cut your food into smaller pieces, and chew on both sides to keep your denture stable. Eating sticky or hard foods may be challenging, but still manageable.

Daily care for full and partial dentures include rinsing after every meal, brushing them with a soft toothbrush( no tooth paste), and removing and air drying the denture overnight. You should avoid placing them in hot water. When not in use, store them in a purpose-built container. Regular check-ups are also essential in maintaining their condition.
